01 FOG OVER SEATTLE
A mid-September morning in 2012 is the only time I’ve seen any quantity of sea mist amongst Seattle’s tall buildings. In constant flux it was intercut by bright sun from a clear sky and persisted until the early afternoon. The photographs were made over a couple of hours in an area bounded from the waterfront by Marion Street, Fifth Avenue and Pine Street.

Uncertain as to how long the fog would linger I worked a small area and made exposures as potential images materialised. Others were made with specific buildings and viewpoints in mind but still subject to chance. Street lights and the like steadied the camera, particularly when a long lens was used for some of the shots. From the outset I intended that all images would be monochrome and location details would not accompany them.
